THE UNTITLED WORSHIP PROJECT
Welcome to a part of our Honest world that we have never really shared before. It’s kinda vulnerable to be talking about such a personal part of our lives, but we’ve found our spiritual world unexpectedly colliding with our creative work and we are excited to share it with you. For those who know the full journey of what it has taken to get here and whose hearts are with us all the way, we would love to offer you a small opportunity to partner with us and a gift to ignite your prayers…here.
Ok, so here we go.
There’s something special about being in the room as a moment is happening. That unique moment where something new is being created. Whether that is music, conversation, relationship, art - each moment is new as time moves forward. It’s never happened exactly like that before and never will again. That’s why we decided to do this worship project. A few years ago, we were a group of friends, hanging out and making music for our Young Adults ministry and Sunday services at our local church. Each set we got to play together, our goal was to hit a moment where we were free, flowing with something beyond ourselves; a moment where we were in step with each other and with the Holy Spirit without needing to communicate and make calls. We just intuitively knew where to go next. I remember studying in college and learning about the transcendence that music can hit. There’s something about music that everyone can connect with and it’s that same something that lets musicians connect with each other while they’re playing. So, we began to dream about capturing those moments in a way that brought people into the room with us. We wanted to capture that specific moment in time, that take of a song, and share it with people. We want you to be able to connect with the music that happened right then, right there, even if you couldn’t physically be in the room; to experience that same moment with us. You can’t fake the funk.
This is a sonic experiment, we are attempting something we’ve never done before.
Not worship, we’ve been doing that together for 15 years (or so). No, the thing we’ve never done before is packing up our instruments and tape recorder (literally), leaving town and spending pure, uninterrupted time in our worship. This is our expression to our God. We are going to hit record and let the shared melody fall out of us. At the end, it will probably look like an album, at the very least a collection of songs. Perhaps it will have a name, in the meantime we are calling it a ‘project’.
By the way, did you want to see where we will be actually recording this thing? We’ve taken a leap and booked out 5 days on this incredible property in Oberon…
